How did your study abroad experience influence your career path?
Due to the fact my study abroad experience was cut short with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Forensic Psychology abroad. In other words, I got a taste of what life was like living in another country and experiencing a new culture during my time with the Fairfield University Study Abroad program and couldn't get enough!
Additionally, my experience living abroad influenced my decision to pursue a Master's degree in the United Kingdom as it showed me I could move to another country, one where the main language spoken was not my native language, and thrive. With this confidence, I applied for my Master's program and decided after completing it I would stay for at least another 2 years to work in London.

What’s the most important thing you learned from studying abroad?
Everyone always says when you go off to college that you learn independence and I agree with that; however, when you study abroad you learn to be even more independent. Like moving away to university, for many of us, studying abroad is the first time we've moved that far away from home. With this comes self-discovery and challenges and you learn that you can handle anything life throws at you!
What are you doing now and how does it relate to your study abroad experience?
Currently, I am working at the University of Roehampton in their United Kingdom Recruitment Team. My role is Recruitment Events Coordinator, meaning I assist with the planning and execution of Open Events (like a Fairfield In Focus Day). Although my role does not directly relate to my degrees or my study abroad experience, I would say my study abroad experience still played a major role in me landing my current role as it is the reason I felt comfortable and confident moving to work and study long-term abroad.

What advice would you give to prospective study abroad students?
If you're thinking about studying abroad, take the leap and go! It is an amazing opportunity and can truly help you realize passions you may not know you had or help you find a career you love.
