Hi! My name is Dermot and I am a third year Mechanical Engineering student studying abroad in Galway. For those of you reading this and are on the fence about studying abroad, let me tell you about my time in Galway! Galway is a small city on the west coast of Ireland, known for its traditional Irish culture and music. It has great views and activities to do during the day and a fantastic night life! You can catch a bus to Dublin, Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Castle, or a ferry to the Aran Islands, no destination is more than 2-3 hours away. The course selection for engineering while studying abroad at the University of Galway is excellent! If you're worried about making up for courses after you come back, no need to worry! My scheduling was effortless and I have already set up my schedule with no extra classes. I enrolled in three engineering classes, an interdisciplinary class between ethics and engineering, and an Irish history class. I would recommend taking at least one Irish history class while being in Ireland, you're literally there! If you are looking to immerse yourself in an everyday vibrant culture, Galway is certainly a viable option while choosing where to study abroad.
