The experience has been absolutely unreal in general. Florence is such an amazing, homey city. I am a total home body and was absolutely terrified to move my life here for five months. However, I have felt so unbelievably safe, comfortable, and at home here. Every day feels like I’m living a movie, even if it’s just going to the grocery store. The fashion program has been amazing as well. I have wanted to study fashion my entire life and am finally getting the opportunity to do it. Having my experiential learning class at FLY ("Fashion Loves You" vintage store) was also a great experience as it allowed me a ton of knowledge going forward into the fashion industry and also for any future job or internship. I got to attend a fashion trade show through the program and complete assignments on it, which didn’t even feel like an assignment as it was so fun and such an experience being able to go.
The classes are very hands on, for one of my classes we frequently went on “field trips” to department stores, perfumeries, and leather markets. The lectures are very engaging and all of my professors have been super kind!
My classes so far have been about a lot of the tents of marketing (consumer journey, corporate social responsibility) but how they apply to fashion. It has been almost a review of what I have already learned in marketing just geared towards fashion.
