Joe Kellers is a member of the Class of 2027, majoring in Politics. He participated in the Washington Internship Institute, where he interned at the DCCC.
Joe is an operations intern at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee(DCCC). There is one intern in each department (accounting, campaigns, etc.), with twelve of them in total.
Joe worked full-time (4 days a week) and had two turbo courses on Wednesdays, including a Core course, which is a seminar-style class that emphasizes in-depth discussions about politics and policy, and the internship Seminar that is designed to enhance your internship experience and your future career.
He lived and learned with his Washington Internship Institute cohort, which is made up of sixteen students.
Joe lived in an apartment that is located in the NOMA/Union Market neighborhood, which is located near restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, and has easy access to the Metro. WII also organizes several group activities throughout the semester, such as a U.S. Capitol Building Tour, Monument Walking Tour, and even a Washington National’s Baseball Game. As well as the ability to stroll by the White House, see the Lincoln Memorial at night, and visit the National Zoo.
Joe said that there are special guest speakers and occasional class outings on weeknights. Joe’s highlights from his time in D.C. have been having the opportunity to meet former Vice President Harris, connecting with the DCCC chairwoman DelBene, and getting to know the other students and interns. The Washington Internship Institute has provided a well-rounded experience that combines professional development, networking opportunities, and hands-on exposure to the fast-paced environment of Washington, D.C.
