This semester, Bridgit DeGroat, a member of the class of 2027, is studying abroad in Sydney, Australia, through Fairfield’s Global Partner AIFS. Students in this program enroll in classes at The University of Sydney, intern with a local company, and have the opportunity to volunteer and participate in campus clubs and organizations.
“What really drew me to AIFS was how inclusive the program is,” Bridgit shared. “It includes tuition, housing, cultural activities, insurance, and ongoing support while I’m abroad. Knowing I had all those resources made me feel comfortable about studying overseas for the first time.”
Although the transition to life in Australia took some time, Bridgit quickly fell in love with Sydney. Some of her favorite moments so far include petting kangaroos at the Taronga Zoo and surfing in Byron Bay during her mid-semester break. She is also planning on visiting Cairns, Bali, and New Zealand later this semester.
At the University of Sydney, Bridgit noticed a few academic differences from what she is used to at Fairfield: “The grading tends to be stricter, and the classes are larger. Each course has both a lecture and a tutorial. The lecture is recorded, and the tutorial is small and interactive, which I enjoy.”
Bridgit didn’t hesitate to recommend the program. She shares that “I’ve had a great experience studying abroad, and my program director here in Sydney has been incredibly supportive.”
From exploring new places to learning in a global classroom, Bridgit’s time abroad has been full of growth, adventure, and unforgettable memories.
